Krabbe takes us on a 148-page, 136 km road race, the Tour de Mont Angoual. Not only is the sports writing superb, but so is the translation from the original Dutch by Sam Garnett. Krabbe is also a chess master, which makes his description of bike racing tactics all the more calculating. This is like racing without the lactic acid.
