** spoiler alert ** The story of Rapunzel has always been MY FAVORITE FAIRY TALE...but this edition is a very strange rendition. The idea that the sorceress/witch who took in Rapunzel and raised her, had another daughter named Rue, who was the girl who embodied the story of Rapunzel, and the actual girl named Rapunzel from birth due to the herb her birth-mother would die without was, get this...was born bald! The author tried to explain her reasonings for making the lead charcter bald, as a tribute to a family member who had a medical condition causing her to be bald, is commendable, but to say the girl Rue is the one whose plight is to stay locked in a tower until a prince comes to save her, then take on the name Rapunzel so the fairy tale of the girl in the tower would then take this name, is kinda far-fetched. Half the book is then based on the life of the girl whose name is Rapunzel (later she takes the name Susan when she meets a prince of her own.) and raised by the sorceress, but Rue is the actual character we all reccognize from the story. Confused yet? Me too.
