I didn't know anything about the book and picked it up only because I'm trying to read up on some Nobel Prize winning writers. Coetzee has a way with language and manages to develop characters pretty thoroughly very quickly. The story itself is unexceptional but offers some interesting incites into the ways in which different people deal with dishonorable circumstances, as well as relationships between parents and their adult children, teachers and students, and racial issues in post-apartheid South Africa.
