A high school senior named Sage tries to hide her bipolar mother and get a popular football player to go out with her before eventually realizing that abandoning her real friends and letting herself be manipulated by others does not make her feel better after all. This is one of my review books for the library in which I work. The chapters are written in alternating voices - Sage, Vern, Walter, and Roger. Ultimately, this waters down the story and makes it a little difficult to get invested in the characters even though they are filled with very relatable teen insecurity, angst, and desire.
