Though filled with a variety of interesting rat stories and facts, I found the writing style to be a bit frustrating due to unnecessary (and blantant) foreshadowing. The author is a bit of a rat expert snob ("back when I was raising wild rats..."), but if I'd devoted my life to the study of rats, I'd likey carry some pride with me as well.

While reading this and waiting for the subway, a rat scurried along the wall on which I was leaning. When it reached my ankle, it banged into it a couple of times until I moved it. I knew that this was due to the rat's directional sense through touch and poor eyesight. And though I could appreciate this knowledge, coupled with the 55 diseases linked to rodents, it was all simultaneously pretty fascinating and disgusting.
