I love to roadtest diets books. I swear to god this diet works, but of course you eat minimal calories and guess what you lose weight! You see abs! The downside, as with any diet, are no eating out (mainly b.c you dont want to go over the alotted 400 calorie per meal quota, no recipes that do not involve a piece of frozen mock meat, and The takeaway from this is that:

concept 1: MUFA (the pseudoscientific buzzword on which the diet is based) monounsaturated fatty acids, are very important and must be eaten at every meal. I did not indulge in the suggested flax oil, but did eat nuts, peanut butter, almond butter etc. This is pretty much in line with most diets ive seen wherein carbs are eaten with fats.
concept 2: the GI tract is very long and bulky foods can lead to bloating. To keep the bloat down, you must consume low bulk foods, so I ditched the kashi cereal (fiber=bad) and switched up with rice crispies, which are surprisingly lighter feeling (read not filling). Other suggestions are cooked carrots instead of raw, no high bulk foods such as cabbage and broccoli, applesauce instead of raw apples. Apparently talking and chewing gum can lead to added air in the gut and increase bloating. who knew!
concept 3: the initiation phase is 1200 calories and the rest of the diet is around 1600.
concept 4: I did like the meal suggestions which were very straighforward, for example frozen waffles with peanut butter and banana, and the use of brand names.
Very easy to follow and written by the editor of Prevention magazine and an RD.
