A short read, poignant, and it wasn't too predictable. Sam (Samara) is a pastor's daughter. Her mom is currently undergoing treatment for alcoholism after years of keeping her addiction under wraps and portraying the perfect pastor's wife. Sam's dad is great at being a pastor, but his words and his parenting skills are lacking at home. Sam feels like she is quickly losing faith and losing her family. Then Jody Shaw goes missing and everything Sam is experiencing is magnified. Sam turns to Jody's older brother Nick and in turn he also consoles her. As everyone deals with Jody's disappearance, Sam tries to regain her faith and her family. The pacing, writing, and character development is great, and I honestly had no idea how the missing-girl aspect would be resolved because Zarr does a good job of not making the story predictable. I wanted to shake some sense into Sam sometimes though because she would think of really great questions to ask in her head, but she wouldn't verbalize them, but after finishing the book I think that was an integral part of how her character dealt with life. Zarr does not disappoint.
