I think this book is a good choice for a bookclub b/c there is a lot to discuss. Schlink seems to give an unsympathetic view into post WWII Germany. It is also somewhat of a love story but I never felt any attachment toward the characters. I believe this was intentional, to help the reader gain a sense of how a Nazi guard might view her prisoners. The chapters are very short which made the book seem a bit choppy to me. I just never felt truly invested in the storyline.
