Excerpt from my readers response notebook

It seems that Basil is prepared to confront the demons of his past. Despite losing Yolanda, he is able to move on to analyze his psyche. We finally get an explanation behind why Basil is "Basil". He was molested as a child by his uncle.

I wonder if E. Lynn gets backlash from the gay community for writing this into the series story line. Does it make sense to give Basil an excuse for his treatement of others...gay and straight? Couldn't it be interpreted that all dead beats were abused as children? Is it right to enable them with this reasoning? When do we begin to take responsibility for our actions? When do we learn to forgive and forget and not allow all future partners to pay for the hurt/anger of the past??
