Its premise was very tempting for me, and once I got settled within the adventure; I knew that it wasn't some cheap Dracula stories. In fact, it was more like a research paper than a novel. I don't think Bram Stoker did more extensive research than Kostova while writing his Dracula.
My only complaint about The Historian was that at times the book read like a Discovery Travel & Living program in Eastern Europe. Too many travels, and too many different places which would be difficult to keep track if you didn't pour your mind & concentration on the novel. I also wish the ending could offer more bite, and not that simple.
