This novel is extremely well-written, a gripping narrative with characters that are undeniably real. My only gripe with this book is that the author seemed to write himself into too many miraculous situations that it began to seem a little unbelievable at times - I don't doubt that Gregory David Roberts has led a highly interesting life, but his modesty when writing about certain events often came across, in my opinion, as immodest and this made me question the reality of certain situations that occurred within the story.

As a traveller myself, this was an important book to read - and I know many people who carry this book around with them like a bible. For me this was highly captivating, kept me entertained, made me cry. I would recommend this book to my friends, especially those with the travel bug. I personally have never visited India, but this book has definitely made me open to the possibility of doing so at some point in the future.
