This was a beautiful book, telling two sad tales intertwined. It was very well written, and I enjoyed reading it, but strangely, the sad stories didn't make me sad. Maybe it's because there was such heavy foreshadowing--it couldn't possibly be a surprise when either of the tragedies finally occurred. Or maybe it's because neither of the main characters was quite sympathetic--I liked them both ok, but I didn't really feel for either of them. I'm not sure what I think about this.
