Lucy Grealy has an amazing story of heartbreak and neurosis and love and loss and self image. The only part that I didn't like about it was the ending - it feels really abrupt and full of forced cheerfulness. It is like she said, "oh, well, i'm done writing now so I'll just give you all a happy ending since that's what you really want anyway." It was very strange. But it all makes a LOT more sense if you read Ann Patchett
's book about her relationship with Lucy, Truth and Beauty: A Friendship
. So if you're thinking about reading this, consider them a package deal, more like one book instead of two.
