Brilliant. Some of the finest modern fiction writing I have read in some time. It's structure, tone, descriptions and deconstructionism is startling. I will be left thinking about this book for some time.

Initially, Jeff in Venice Death in Varanasi is two distinct novellas. The first is recalls Hornby, as the writer we wished he had grown into. The second is a transcendental travelogue. However, on completing the whole of the novel, it is clear that neither novella would have the same depth of meaning and insight without the other.

Remarkable. A must read.
