I'm a total city-ist. Other types of places are fine to visit, but I really don't think I could live in any of them. Also architecture is one of my wish-I-had careers; and can slightly (possibly more in future) enjoy it vicariously through others around me. So, fascinating!

Will Byrnes This is one of the greats. Mixed use is how places like Greenwich Village remain vibrant. Her Economy of Cities is also worth a look. Take it from another committed, life-long urbanite.

Claire S Excellent, I'd heard of her for a long time, will be great to read her.
Here in Minneapolis my parents were always involved in the city. My Mom was part of a Model Cities group that first had the idea to marry parks with schools. Now there are several where the school playground is park equipment within a park, etc.. works great.
I've been more involved with the city schools, but it all matters to me a great deal.
