WOW -- definitely one of the best books I've read in recent years. An incredible anthropological account of one family's experience with a particular illness -- and the tensions and conflicts between Hmong healing traditions and conventional Western medicine. It's framed more broadly in the history of the Hmong people and Laos, and simultaneously informative/well-researched and extremely human/emotional. Very, very well-written. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Southeast Asia, immigration issues, health care, medical anthropology, holistic medicine, non-traditional healing, and epilepsy.
