Had I not seen the film adaptation prior to reading the book...I probably would have given this one four stars. In the film the character of Jed has this creepiness that was somewhat absent in the book and for me the story suffered as a result.
I also found myself getting bored at times as McEwan has a tendancy to go off on these rants on scientific studies that seem to have absolutely nothing to do with the story. I think he could have cut out around 20-30 pages of that content and it wouldn't have affected the story in any way.
But the man has a way with words and despite a few flaws, Enduring Love is beautifully written and terribly interesting. It took me a few chapters, but once I got into it...I became heavily engrossed and couldn't wait to see what happened next and how the story differed from the screenplay.
