it was amazing

Gary Schmidt makes we fall in love with the writing of a young adult/juvenile author not named Spinelli or DiCamillo. I read Trouble, also by Schmidt, a couple years ago and was thoroughly impressed. This guy can flat-out write. The Wednesday Wars possesses all the same depth of thought and feeling but is funnier than Trouble, and its first-person narrative makes it more accessible. Perhaps my only complaint is that Schmidt seems a tad too enamored with his own word genius at times. If I were his editor, I probably would have done a bit of pruning, particularly toward the end, but then again what do I know?
