it was amazing

This is, quite perhaps, my favorite of the series so far (have not read the newest one!). It's court politics at its backstabbing finest, but Megan Whalen Turner never forgets the small little bits, like, how much a little snot can be a little snot, but still loves his brother with a love that makes you pity him. Or how a guard can be the most loyal and faithful guard in the world, and still not realize that that might be the precise reason he and his coterie could be dangerous to the Queen. And really, though the story is told from Costis', the guard to the King, point of view, the real treat is seeing how Attolia and Eugenides interact and their very real, very complex love for each other.
