This book is set in Wales and deals mainly with the Welsh coal mining and iron workers and the early days of Chartism, the movement to gain rights for the workers. The love story is woven through events in such a way that it really takes a back seat but is nevertheless powerful. Sian Jones, widow, and Alex Hyatt, Marquess of Craille, widower, finally come to a meeting of minds in the final pages of the book. Although the future is hinted at, it would have been nice if Ms. Balogh continued the story for a while, since this marriage would make a story on its own, defying convention as it does.
