Finally, after much delay, I finished the book. It was truly harrowing to hear what China was like during the Cultural Revolution and Mao's reign. The entire culture and people were suppressed in every way - to not even be able to form a question in your mind because you're too scared and have that morph into not even considering the question exists is really scary and sad. While some parts of the book dragged, it felt like an honest retelling of what must have been excruciating to experience.
