I really like Benjamin Black's writing style, his word choices, the images, just about everything about his books. The story draws me in, the characters are fascinating, if not always likeable. The only drawback is the subtle and sometimes unexpected way we're pulled into the very seamy side of life in Dublin. Maybe it's inevitable since Quirke, the main character, is a coroner and can't help but investigate what happened to the body he's autopsied when things don't quite add up. This makes for a great plotline but also takes the reader into dark places. His other books are written under his real name, Bannville I think. I don't know what they are about. Maybe I'll take a look at those.
