I had refused to read this book originally. It was revisiting Alberich's life, how he came to Valdemar, and having read the Arrows of the Queen series, you already kind of know the ending. However, it was very well done, and fleshed out his story so thoroughly that I enjoyed it despite myself. It also was interesting to see where she touched on pieces from the newer series, and what notes she came up with that hadn't been central to the plot points originally, so in a comparison between this and the Arrows of the Queen, you can see the maturation of the story line. A good read, and worthwhile to any fan of Valdemar.
