I read this when it came out, and actually read the books the ladies read for each chapter. It was a fabulous way to do it (though Lolita is definitely not a favorite book of mine. Made me want to take a shower after reading.) I also felt rather stupid, because I am not nearly as articulate or inquisitive or motivated as these remarkable women.

Antof9 You are NOT not articulate or inquisitive or motivated!

And I marked mine for the books I wanted to read that I hadn't yet. I felt like it was a brilliant book guide, all on its own...

Maggie While I was reading it I really, really wanted to take a Lit course from her. I'd read most of the books she discussed (and many she mentioned [of Nabokov's works I've read only Lolita:]), but she made me want to read them again and then read her comments to get a fuller knowledge.

Antof9 This was one book I made part of my PC (which I don't do lightly) for that very reason. I figure at some point, I will read all of the books she mentions in this, and come back for her comments.

Wouldn't it be fun to take a lit course from her?

bookczuk Wouldn't it be fun to take a lit course, all of us together?!

Antof9 my thoughts exactly :)

bookczuk Maggie would probably be the teacher's pet, though, because she's so smart.
