Amy Tan is one of those authors i have a love/hate relationship with. Joy Luck and Bonesetters are two of my favorites ever. Secret Senses and Kitchen God are the other extreme. This one falls squarely in the middle - i neither really loved it or hated it. It was OK.

I listened to this on audio - and parts of it i really wished i could have skimmed instead of hearing each word. I grew tired of some of the characters, unable to generate any reason to like them. the premise of the story was interesting though and i did enjoy the commentary on the media and government during the rescue of the 11.
