Many Christians emphasize the miracle stories in the New Testament to the point that any teachings on behavior become obscured. This is convenient because most people don't really want to live as Christ would have them live, whatever they may proclaim with their lips. They enjoy passing judgement on others, blissfully unaware that they too will be judged, despite the fact that Christ informed them in no uncertain terms of their fate. Tolstoy was not interested in convenience. He was interested in changing the world. So here is a retelling of the gospels without mention of a miracle. Curiously, despite the fact that I believe the Bible's miracles did occur, I found the story even more inspiring this way.
