The Falls: A Novel by Joyce Carol Oates forces the reader to examine their own choices and motivation as they watch the main characters make mistakes and be led by their faulty assumptions and beliefs. I loved this book, it was not an easy or enjoyable read but the kind I jokingly say can substitute for pyscotherapy, the kind of book you need to read and helps you stretch your mind a little. In a happier novel the main characters would realize their mistakes and save themselves before it was too late, but that is not true life and this novel is very realistic. It ends on a good note and you can believe some lessons have been learned while some ghosts are finally laid to rest.

The information about the Love Canal pollution scandal was very compelling and drew me to investigate the facts of the case. Its Sad that this type of corruption still exists.

Jennifer Pack Sounds like this book is my kind of book! Will add it to my list.

Betsy very well put. Yes JCO stretches your mind. This particular read was sad and fullfilling in many ways. Not an easy read.
