Well, this was not as compelling as one had hoped. A lot of good information, some interesting anecdotes, and lots of good quotes to illustrate and illuminate his points, but the whole was not nearly as affecting as this reader had been led to believe. It may have been the very presence of all the references to other works that became a barrier to connecting with the author. One began to feel there was little original thought being presented. Or possibly, one has already heard the theme of God's unconditional love for the sinner from other sources and what may have once been fresh insight now seems old hat. Whatever the problem, one is now less enthusiastic about reading his other works. And that is truly unfortunate. If anything this has opened this reader's eyes to some of the sources quoted here and that may provide a path to more opportunities for fresh manna.
