The definitive biography of Abraham Lincoln, in my opinion. Donald writes with such a clarity and lack of bias (which often border on personality cult-like writing in other biographies) that we are able to understand the true Lincoln, flaws and all. Particularly interesting to me is the explanation of Lincoln's shrewd political management, a trait which I didn't realize existed in him to such a degree.

I first read this when I was about 10, but I knew it deserved a second look and I was totally correct.
