An interesting read with an unrealistic/unbelievable premise that I just couldn’t get past. It was just too farfetched for me to believe that Pro-lifers and Pro-choicers would come to the agreement that you couldn’t abort an unborn baby, but that it would be okay to “unwind” a child after they turned 13 but before they turned 18. Unwinding is a process where the body parts of the adolescent are harvested for the use of other humans; sometimes not even for medically necessary uses. Other than that, the book was well written, the characters were well developed, and the story moved along at a good pace. I think that teenage readers will like this story as it does have the feel of “youth against the establishment”, and there is an eerie quality to the characters trying to escape their unwinding by running from the “juvies” and trying to survive in a harsh world.
