I wish this system had half stars - I'd give "Confessions" a 4.5. Perhaps I should even give it a 5. I'm surprised I ended up enjoying this book so much. When my friend loaned it to me I didn't start on it for a long time, and I read several books in-between starting and finishing this one. I was expecting it to be silly and light and humorous, because of the title, but silly it is not. I found it rather dark and heavy to begin with, though from the start I found Gregory Maquire's writing amazing. Sometimes in your reading do you come across an author who just seems brilliant? I found the writing to be so full of truths, stated in metaphors and thoughts that I had never heard before. I thought he was incredible. None the less, it's a pretty heavy story and there was a lot I couldn't quite put together at first, like all the stuff about chagelings. But, as happens with many books, the closer I got to the end the faster I started reading. I eventually came to just love...more
