Witch Child is about a girl named Mary Newbery. She thinks she is a witch because the people in England accused her grandmother of being a witch. this story takes place in 1659, and is written in multiple diary entries from Mary's point of view. Once Mary's Grandmother dies, she goes on a ship to Salem, Massachusetts. Later in the story, Mary is certain that she will get hanged by the townspeople. After all, Salem was known for its harsh witch trials...
I can make a text to self connection to this book. In the book Mary has to chose betwean being safe in america or staying with her family. It is sort of like going to sleepaway camp for the first time. This helps me understand how Mary feels in her situation.
I would only give this book 1 star. It was hard for me to understand what was going on in some parts. kind of confusing. I would recommend this book to some who likes to learn about the past/history. Also to people who read other books Celia Rees.
