From Booklist's Best Picture Books of 2008. Lightships were lighthouses ---only they're weren't situated on a bluff near the water---they were anchored IN the water. They served the same purpose as a light house and had lighted signals and loud horns to keep ships from sailing aground or running into reefs or getting lost in foggy and stormy weather. Lightships are no longer used. The illustrations in this book show a cat living on the lightship. I don't think a cat would like to live on a lightship.
