really liked it
bookshelves: japan-lit
Read in January, 2005

This one is hard to evaluate. Murakami is not on the top of his game here. The scenarios are a little too glib and pat. Parts (Col. Saunders as a high-class pimp) are borderline self-parody. However, there was also a lot here that I liked, particularly the library scenes. Coming from an unknown author I'd regard it as a damn good piece of work. I guess I expect constant 5 star work from Murakami.
