Not sure whether this book has been translated into English yet. Bernhard Schlink also wrote "The Reader." The literal translation of this book's title is "The Weekend." (He also wrote "The Homecoming," which I thought was the translation of this book, but it's not.) It had a vague resemblance to the film "The Big Chill," but the coming together of various long-time friends here is to welcome home a friend who had been in prison for several years for terrorist activity in Germany (during the era of the Baader-Meinhof gang). The terrorist's sister has arranged this get-together at a vacation house to smooth her brother's transition back into society. The setting is somewhat claustrophobic, and the hoped-for transition goes awry as it becomes clear that despite the years of imprisonment and changes in society, the brother has not given up his political ideas. Suspenseful and thought-provoking, but I really didn't care for any of the characters in this book.
