I thought this book was a very worthwhile read. Mr. Binelli is a wordsmith with a love for expressive language. The layered and truthful look at Detroit through the eyes of a white suburban boy rang true to this white suburban girl that grew up in the shadow cast by Detroit. I myself tried to be a downtown girl. I lived in Indian Village and took public transportation to my job in the high rise across from the Hudson Department store. I watched it all go to hell. Yet I sometimes dream of paying cash for a great old house and being an urban pioneer. I learned a lot about the shaping of this city historically. I will never hate her!
May she rise as a phoenix from the post apocalyptic ashes.
