If half stars could be given, this would be more along the lines of 3.5 stars rather than four. My only real gripe with the book is that in trying to be two things (a photo book and a guidebook), it isn't practical. As far as giving me ideas on places to go hiking/exploring, it's great. The photography is solid and the directions are probably great. The problem is that it isn't practical to take with you as a guide. It's a big book meant to show off photography. If you want to follow the guide portions, you'd either have to copy the directions by hand or photocopy them, neither very practical. Ideally, this would be two separate books, a photography book and a small (literally) pocket-sized guide around the various trails.
