did not like it
Read in July, 2011

An incredibly dense, unrewarding read.

Couple that with opinionated passages where the author compares people to "Texans" and passages that deal with his dream encounters with his grandmother-in-laws ghost.

There's definitely room for books about Korea on my shelf, but this isn't one of them.

Aaron VanAlstine Bruce Cumings is a Marxist historian and a fellow-travelling apologist for the North Korean regime. However, his most recent book, The Korean War, is a good read.

I agree with a lot of the other reviewers that things picked up a bit as he approached modern times.

Thanks for the recommendation.
