this was my introduction to Neil Gaiman, and i loved this book. it's creepy and sinister, and its also clever and funny. so many imaginative details and images that would seem randomly thrown together in the hands of a less talented writer, but somehow make sense in the universe Gaiman has created here.

but what makes the story so memorable and wonderful for me lies in so much more than the fantastical, creepy alternate world - what i loved the most about the story is that it resonates with so much emotion, and the heart of the book is recognizable and rings so true. it's about finding determination and strength to accomplish what seems impossible, being courageous in the face of insurmountable terror and opposition, discovering the true nature of love and the value of family and home - that it will drive you to unimaginable lengths for the very person you took for granted, who refuses to play with you or cook the food you like and seems replaceable. and it's amazing because Gaiman...more
