bookshelves: giving-up-for-now
Read in July, 2008

Fuck it. Giving up for now since I've been on the last 50 pages for over a year...

FINALLY! Picked this up in Prague (because Italy is so bass-ackwards that it can't carry classic lit in English ... oOoOoh no, that would be too hard, especially with the huge influx of English-speaking/reading tourists)

Anyway, so far, this book is SO old-commie Russian that it's freaking me out. And I know there's all this symbolism that I'm missing. Gave me nightmares after the first 50 pages, all this talk about the devil and a cat running around Moscow and heads being severed by tram/cars. >shudder<

BUT ... there's something to it. I like it so far, but it's gonna take me a while.

Dan's Obsessions ha haa.. very funny review an quite sincere..!
[ a trait completely lucking in GR ]

I had a copy reserved from a library I was helping out as a student! and even before it was categorised I got ahold of it... now over a year almost, and I dunno if I should start this one after all!

Same old fears, I guess, I think I might just not get his imagery, this magical realism they speak of...
