  rating: 5 of 5 stars<br/>this is a fantastic little book.  as a freethinking/secular parent raising my children, i have been navigating the waters with nothing but my own (and their mother's) instincts.  not that a freethinking/secular parent need a guidebook.  this is not a guidebook.  but rather a collection of essays on a number of universal topics, including death, morals, tolerance, etc., as well as topics that more directly affect the freethinking household.  the essays are written by a variety of folks, from ministers to doctors, to entertainers to parents like yourself.  in many cases, the book simply reinforced my own beliefs and parenting, but there is something to be said for that, to hear other parents who feel the same way, who are dealing with the same issues, and hold the same beliefs regarding religion and its place in society.

<br/>i almost would recommend this book to my christian friends, if only to show that living as a freethinking/secular parent and raising your children as such is not an affront to religion.  it's not an anger-fueled, anti-religious way of living.  it is simply another way to raise your children to think for themselves and to prepare them for making their own decisions about what to believe when they are ready and capable of making those decisions.
