This is a darker book than the first one in the trilogy. I liked how this book complicated the story from the previous one, and also had some contained plot as well. It didn't have that incomplete "middle book" feel, because some things were resolved, but it definitely left me set up for the concluding volume. I like the characters, and the fact that nobody's perfect; the Catholic influence is interesting, too.
