liked it
Recommended for: Readers of Anne Rice and other vampire novels.
Read in August, 2007

Although I liked the book to a certain degree it did lack certain elements. There was no character development even for Cassandra, the narrator. The only aspect the reader knows of her are the current events unfolding. On the way through the plot the reader gradually picks up certain facts about her childhood and upbringing. But it is not enough to really create a bond between you and the main character. Along with Cassandra the reader never really knows what is going on when she starts being targeted for assassination attempts. This is a good and bad thing considering that you are not able to appreciate the story as you should because you are to involved with trying to figure things out.
However, the novel is definitely action packed and if you would like some good human on vampire action, i would read it. Although the sex scenes are not as steamy as some written by Anne Rice (especially under her other name) it would suffice enough. I'm definitely intrigued and enlightened enough to read the next installment.
