I really wish that Virgil depended less on Homer, because The Aeneid really suffers in comparison with The Odyssey (less so in comparison with The Iliad, although that is definitely a better poem). Mostly, I already knew the story through secondary sources (Lavinia, Dido, Queen of Carthage) which I like...more. Hmm! Um, my knowledge of Latin is non-existant but I think that Mandelbaum has a readable, fairly quotable translation.
