This book is less successful than The Golden Compass, but still enjoyable. I liked that Pullman changes narrators and shows that he can tell a story from multiple points of view. However, the architecture of the story begins to show through in the volume and some of the elements, such as his use of a pair of gay angels, seems contrived and unnecessary. Still worth reading, but not as satisfying as the first volume.
