I started and finished this book in less than 24 hours, which would be amazing except I was camping and didn't have much else to do. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book as a quick, light read with a simple message and an engaging plot.

In The Cradle, Matt is sent by his very pregnant wife on what at first appears to be a wild goose chase - he has been instructed to find the cradle that his wife slept in as a child, which was "mysteriously" stolen from her house a week after her mother abandoned the family, never to be seen or heard from again. Naturally, this request sends Matt on a search that introduces him to a number of odd and interesting people and causes him to uncover family secrets - one of which has life changing consequences.

While the search for the cradle is intriguing, some of the people that help Matt start to blend together - rather than being unique characters, they seem more like cliches disguised in quirky clothes. That's really my only complaint, though. The Cradle is what it is - a solid plot, a character you cheer for, and a theme centered on love and family and the responsibilities these things bring with them. What's not to like about that?
