dude, yeah, i know. dean koontz? me?!?
yes, i am serious. this is one of THE scariest books i have ever read. i finished it in one night while i was living alone, and i had mascara-stained tears running down my cheeks by the end, i was so terrified.
to clarify, dean koontz is not a "great" writer. in fact, some of his descriptive passages are so bad they nearly threw me off course.
howEVER. the scenario he has laid out in "intensity" feeds off of every human being's worst fears: being trapped, being followed, being discovered, being the last one left alive.
and for what it's worth, there was a french film released a few years ago, "high intensity," based on this book. it, too, scared the shit out of me.
laugh all you want at my having given a five-star review to a dean koontz mass market. go ahead.
i'm not answering your phone call at 3 a.m. when you get to the last page.

Jacob Zembower I believe you meant High Tension, and it wasn't based on this book.
