Read in March, 2009, read count: 1

Sensually written and deftly woven tale of a family's tragedy, and the lives that are halted along with it thanks to the machinations of a bitter old woman.

Written with an incredibly sure voice mainly from the points of view of the twins, Estha and Rahel, each layer is gradually peeled back over the course of the book, working backwards to reveal the full extent of the Awful Event which is only truly revealed at the end, and seeming even more horrifying in that events are mostly seen from the childrens' perspectives.
