With this volume in the series, the storyline allowed more background and character development of the protagonist and the other important characters in the story. As other reviewers have noted, in one sense this series is a love letter to New York City. The authors did their homework on the military, too - a lot of writers don't, and as a retired military type that evaporates my suspension of disbelief.
