This book introduced me to Borges and in turn many other authors of similar ilk. Ficciones is not only an assemblage of some of Borges' best fiction writing, but also an assemblage of his personal explorations for Truth. He refuses to throw out any line of reasoning solely on face value and not only acknowledges but embraces their many times contradictory natures on the premise that truth - ultimate truth - may in fact be an illusion or a fabrication by the intellect of man. This embrace of the pure complexity and sometimes bizarre nature is what I love most about this book.
